Hulls and Foils

In recent years, VPLP has designed some of the fastest boats on the planet. Their experience has been transferred into the SIG60.

The hulls shapes are derived directly from the latest generation of VPLP ocean racing multihulls. The characteristic and elegant concave profile bows are designed to simultaneously reduce drag and increase stability and flotation when the hull is submerged well below the stationary water line - the usual state of the lee hull.

The concave profile offers most of the hydrodynamic benefits of the currently popular reverse bow, while (given the cruising emphasis of this yacht) giving extra reserve buoyancy and usable deck area.

The hulls are extremely slender, with a length to beam ratio of approximately 13:1. Beam clearance is high on the SIG60: the mast beam is a full metre above the waterline. The combination of the bow design, slender, race derived hulls, high beam clearance result in a remarkably smooth motion. Under sail, the SIG60 will be extremely stable and dry, with little or no slamming.

Foils designed for performance and safety

The adjustable, high aspect 2.85m deep daggerboards of the SIG60 provide excellent upwind performance. Daggerboards are not asymmetrical, as this allows the crew to leave both daggerboards down when in cruising mode, rather than having to raise and lower the boards every time they tack or gybe.

The rudders are slightly oversized, providing an extra reserve of security. As a result, even when hard pressed, the boat responds immediately and without fuss. With the boards raised, draft is 1.7m (the depth of the rudders).
