SIG45 #001 on Course for April Completion

The first SIG45 is coming along well. Almost all composite parts are now complete, and the detailed work of putting it all together is underway! The picture below shows the two hulls prior to their connection by the cross beams. Once connected, they will of course be considerably wider apart than pictured. The foam filled crash bows will be bonded to the font of the boat – so there is still another 50cm (20 inches) of boat to come.
The carbon hulls weight only 310kg (680lb) each. You can expect the SIG45 to be fast during her sea trials in May!

The electrical system of the boat is about to be installed. The SIG45 will feature a two wire bus based system, with nodes for each of the electrical units (lights, navigation equipment, etc). This not only provides simple maintenance and diagnostics, but also saves weight by having a single cable loop going around the boat, rather than leading wires from every unit via the switchboard. The first SIG45 will also have Lithium phosphate batteries – these batteries save at least 100kg (220lb) over lead batteries and provide more amperage!

We look forward to keeping you up to date with the progress over the next months until the launch.
