“Made in the USA” SIG45 – Sea Trials and Delivery

“Made in the USA” SIG45 is a big success
We are delighted to announce the successful delivery of our first USA built SIG45. This extraordinary yacht lives up to her billing: she offers a sailing experience which combines the thrill of an America’s Cup 45 foot catamaran with genuine luxury.

The new SIG45 is sailing beautifully. On the second day of sailing, the boat reached 22.3 knots in just 16 knots of breeze, with the new owner at the helm. Since then, the new SIG45 has exceeded 25 knots in flat water, with plenty more to come. The 1200 mile delivery took a pleasant and uneventful 6 days in light winds.

What makes this truly extraordinary is that these speeds were achieved on a cruising boat with air-conditioning, electric flush heads, and barely a drop of water on deck. At 20 knots, the owner’s guests continued their relaxed conversations as their magic carpet smoothly carried them to an idyllic anchorage at speeds expected of a powerboat, slicing through the chop without slamming or noise.

The owner, a well known software entrepreneur, stated, “This yacht allows me to experience all of the visceral pleasure of my high performance racing cat, but I can now bring my friends and family along to share the experience in total comfort, without them even getting wet. I had very specific expectations regarding both performance and quality, and Le Breton Yachts has met my exacting standards.”

Design and Build Quality
At the boat launch Hugo Le Breton, founder of Le Breton Yachts, said, “It was a fantastic opportunity to build our first SIG45 in the USA and meet the high expectations of such a knowledgeable and demanding customer. It was clear from the outset that we needed to deliver something very special in terms of both performance and quality of finish. We now have a yard (Westerly Marine) and tooling in the United States, ready to start on the next SIG45. We have noted a surge in interest over the last months, and expect to close a deal for the next SIG45 in the short term. We are also working on new models of 60 and 80 feet in response to specific enquiries.”

The performance of the SIG45 has been made possible thanks to a combination of innovation, outstanding design pedigree and superlative construction. The strikingly elegant lines barely disguise that this yacht is the product of decades of racing multihull knowledge and expertise. The hulls and exterior lines reflect VPLP’s unparalleled experience, HDS’s engineering knowledge and Westerly Marine’s racing boat heritage.

Vincent Lauriot Prevost of VPLP notes, “We were very pleased to apply what we have learned in designing some of the world’s fastest racing yachts to a catamaran which is available to a much broader public. It’s a pleasure to design a yacht which is genuinely fast and fun, for sailors who wish to combine both performance and comfort. We believe this boat is the benchmark for fast cruising yachts.”

The interior, originally by Bjorn Johansson, has been tailored to the owner’s needs by Infusion Design. Westerly Marine and Norris Woodworking built the nomex honeycomb interior to a standard befitting a superyacht or private jet (right down to the FAA approved aluminium latches).

Test-sail Invitation
The second SIG45 will be available for test sails by appointment for qualified potential buyers in San Francisco this summer and autumn.
